‘A Glowing Report’ for the SB Glow Hotel

When looking for a hotel for my stay in Barcelona I scoured the web and just wasn’t sure of what to book.I knew I wanted to be close to the main attractions but I also wanted a good deal, after a few weeks of looking the Hotel SB Glow popped up on the page. It was exactly what I was looking for, modern, brand new and close by to where I wanted to visit with a rooftop pool if my hubby and I wanted to relax. Most importantly it was a good price, 130 euros for a double room per night and I didn’t have to pay till we left Barcelona, win win. This was my first stay and so far I was very happy indeed.

SB Hotels began 30 years ago with their first hotel in Sant Carles de la Rapita, with Joan Subirats at the helm, from then the hotel group expanded. In 2004 they began opening hotels in Barcelona, to which they now have 5 in different areas of the city offering over 1100 rooms to guests. This year saw the opening of Hotel SB Glow 4* Superior, located in the 22@ district next to Placa de la Glories in Barcelona. All 8 hotels in the SB group offer different experiences, but they all promise “Relaxing environments, unforgettable experiences, spaces that offer endless possibilities”. This is all down to their ‘Mediterranean urban concept’ of making sure the guest feels comfortable, relaxed, well rested and able to enjoy yourself more!

Hotel SB Glow is close to the city centre and located in the hub of the city’s most innovative businesses. Offering 235 rooms, with a choice of double, triple, family suite or jacuzzi with the option of a terrace in many rooms. You can relax in many of their different ‘spaces’ such as the 360 degree rooftop terrace with amazing views of Barcelona, the cocktail bar, in the infinity pool overlooking the Agbar Tower or in the MUC grill restaurant. There are also interior garden spaces if you prefer and a gym, Finnish sauna and a hammam.

On arrival in Barcelona we took the train from the airport to Clot and it was only one metro stop to Glories, we had a seamless checkin despite being delayed in Newcastle on our way out and went to our room, deciding to have a drink on the rooftop before bed. The hotel’ decor is lovely, modern yet classy, our room was a good size with all the facilities we needed along with a safe, a  mini bar in which every item is 3 euro making it easier for the guest and a coffee machine to use. There is a good amount of space to hang you clothing and the bed is very comfy, you can have the choice of a pillow with the pillow menu service. Making sure you sleep your best!

The rooftop is most definitely the highlight, the infinity pool and it’s views are stunning, with plenty of space for many guests to relax before or after a long day of sightseeing in Barcelona. You can see the Sagrada Familia from the roof, it is a couple of stops on the metro or a 30 minute stroll whichever you prefer. La Rambla is 4 stops on the metro which is just at the top of the street and the beach is a 15 minute walk away. You have the best of both worlds.

We knew we would be out sightseeing a lot of the time, so we mainly used the pool in the late afternoons when we came back in to relax until sunset. You can capture some great sunsets from the roof! The pool is open 9 am till 11 pm. Each night we tended to wander out into the city but we always had a drink in the rooftop bar before bed, it is very chilled up there and enjoyable. The 9th floor Voladis rooftop bar is open 10.30 am till 2 am.

The hotel offer a buffet style breakfast to it’s guests each morning for 18 euros per person from 7-10.30 am weekdays and 7.30-11 am at weekends. There are 2 restaurants available here, Voladis Restaurant which is a sushi gastro bar open 11 am till 11 pm on the 9th floor rooftop and the MUC Brasserie Restaurant on the ground floor 1-3.30 pm & 8-11 pm, which has its own cocktail bar too, open 9 am till midnight. Reception is 24 hours and there is a stand nearby that has muffins, flavoured water and sweets to enjoy in during the day for all guests, along with complimentary newspapers.

On our last day we had a late flight back too the UK and the hotel checkout was midday, however they offered to keep our bags and told us we could use all the facilities until we left. This made us feel much more relaxed and able to enjoy our time in Barcelona fully!!

I have nothing but great praise for Hotel SB Glow, I know it will be a great success and I wouldn’t hesitate on returning to stay in the future. Many thanks!
